Dumaguete City: Best place to study Nursing
February 03, 2013
Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental is still the best place to study Nursing based on the latest Nurse’s Licensure Examination (NLE) result which was announced by the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC) last January 31, 2013.
According to official NLE results posted at PRC’s website, www.prc.gov.ph, all four major universities in Dumaguete who sent graduates to take the said exam posted very high passing rates compared to the National Passing Average, which is only 34.5 percent.
Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) topped the list of best performing nursing schools in the city and the Province of Negros Oriental by posting a 100 percent passing average.
Saint Paul University-Dumaguete, which was cited in 2011 as one of the best nursing schools in the country, also excelled with a 95.45 percent passing rate. Silliman University, a Center of Excellence in Nursing Education, has a strong mark showing 88.37 percent, while Foundation University also impressed with an 84.44 percent passing rate.
However, the story was about NORSU’s excellent result. It came as a surprise to many since NORSU students are reputed to having fewer resources than their counterparts in private universities. For Dr. Dalisay M. Dumalag, Dean of the NORSU College of Nursing, Dentistry, Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences (NORSU-CNDPAHS), the result sends a “message that NORSU has excellent education…in spite of the socio-economic status of our students, we can be at par with private institutions in the community.”
With NORSU cementing the impressing show of nursing colleges in the city and province, CNDPAHS Assistant Dean Novalisa A. Leon observed that “Negros Oriental is the best place to study nursing” since all its nursing schools have very high passing rates compared to those of other provinces and regions in the country. Leon attributes this to excellent training and focus on quality graduates.
The news is another feather on the proverbial cap of NORSU. Earlier, NORSU President Dr. Don Vicente C. Real announced that the NORSU-CNDPAHS also posted a 100 percent passing average in the PRC Pharmacists Licensure Examination, the third year in a row the university has done so.
