Bacolod is among the cities in the country to be cited as premier destinations for Information and Communications Technology.
The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP), and Leechiu Property Consultants (LPC) yesterday launched the Digital Cities 2025 initiative to encourage growth in the countryside by providing more jobs in the IT-BPM sector in five years.
They have identified 25 cities as "high-potential areas" for transformation into "digital cities".
During the virtual launch, they also cited six cities, including Bacolod, as "Centers of Excellence".
Bacolod City Administrator Em Ang said this is good news in the time of the coronavirus pandemic.
"This means that Bacolod has maintained its enviable status as one of the top IT-BPO destinations in the country," she added.
The program is also expected to determine the industry-readiness of new centers by creating and developing ICT hubs in identified locations, she added.
DICT, in partnership with IBPAP and LPC, aims to drive inclusive growth in the countryside through the selection of high-potential areas throughout the country and transforming them into IT-BPO centers, she said.
Other cities cited as "Centers of Excellence" are Metro Manila, Metro Cebu, Metro Clark, Davao and Iloilo.
The "Next Wave Cities" are Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Dasmarinas, Lipa, Naga, and Sta. Rosa.
Meanwhile, the 25 "high-potential areas" are Balanga City, Batangas City, Cabanatuan City, Dagupan City, General Santos City, Iligan City, Iriga City, Laguna Cluster (San Pablo, Calamba, and Los BaƱos), Laoag City, Legazpi City, Malolos City, Metro Cavite (Bacoor City, Imus, and General Trias), Metro Rizal (Taytay, Cainta, Antipolo City), Olongapo City, Puerto Princesa City, Roxas City, San Fernando, La Union, San Fernando City, Pampanga, San Jose Del Monte City, Tacloban City, Tagbilaran City, Tarlac City, Tuguegarao City, Urdaneta City, and Zamboanga City.*
