Dumaguete City is eyeing the construction of a cooperative hospital in a few months to cater to primary and secondary patients and thus, help decongest the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital (NOPH) owned and operated by the province of Negros Oriental.

City Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria said the Negros Oriental Hospital and Health Services Cooperative is renting a place in Dumaguete and it is about time for them to have their own building.

Sagarbarria has offered the area where the puericulture building is situated as the site of the two-storey, 40-bed Cooperative Hospital which costs P6 million. The mayor has intimated to fund the construction of the 3rd and 4th floors to house the finance department of the city government.

He said the cooperative hospital was assured of funding from a foreign agency, from a partylist group and another donation of P2 million from the Dumaguete Cathedral Credit Cooperative (DCCO).

The city mayor has confirmed that some of the donated state of the art hospital equipment from Canada have arrived and are temporarily stored at the TB pavilion in Talay.

These include ICU beds, hospital beds and computers, among others.

The chairman of the hospital board is Dr. Roy Arco, the chief executive officer is Fely Ruiz and the founder is Dr. Noel deJesus, a city councilor of Dumaguete who is on his last term in office. (PNA)
